2024 Women in News Leadership Accelerator Programme for Women Journalists & Editors.

The Women in News Leadership Accelerator Program is an initiative designed to empower and advance women professionals in the media industry worldwide. Operated by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), this program aims to address the gender disparity in newsrooms by providing training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to women working in various media roles.

The Women in News (WIN) Leadership Accelerator is a nine-month long career and leadership programme for journalists and editors working in Africa, the Arab Region and Southeast Asia. The programme accepts 100-150 applicants, annually. Women media professionals from the following countries are eligible to apply: Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe (WIN Africa), Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine (WIN Arab Region), Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia (Southeast Asia).

The WIN Leadership Accelerator typically targets mid-career women journalists, editors, and other media professionals who exhibit strong leadership potential and a commitment to driving change within the media landscape. The program focuses on enhancing leadership skills, empowering participants to take on more significant roles and effect positive change in their organizations.

Throughout the program, participants engage in a range of activities, including training sessions, workshops, and networking events, tailored to develop leadership skills, management capabilities, and strategic thinking. They also benefit from mentorship provided by experienced media executives and professionals, gaining valuable insights and guidance to navigate challenges in the industry.

One of the key components of the WIN Leadership Accelerator is the emphasis on fostering a supportive network of women leaders in the media. This network allows participants to connect, share experiences, and collaborate with like-minded professionals from diverse backgrounds and regions, fostering a global community of empowered women in the media industry.

By providing targeted training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, the WIN Leadership Accelerator Program aims to equip women in the media with the skills, confidence, and support they need to advance into leadership positions, thereby contributing to a more diverse and inclusive media landscape worldwide.

This Program operates as a multifaceted initiative, offering a comprehensive platform to support and elevate women professionals within the media sphere.

This program often includes modules focused on a range of critical areas, such as digital transformation, audience engagement strategies, editorial leadership, and business management in the media industry. By providing targeted training in these areas, the program equips participants with the necessary skills to navigate the evolving media landscape and drive innovation within their respective organizations.

The mentorship component of the WIN Leadership Accelerator is a significant highlight. Participants are paired with experienced mentors, often top-tier industry leaders, who provide guidance, share insights, and offer personalized advice to help participants overcome challenges and seize opportunities for growth in their careers.

The networking aspect of the program is equally impactful. Participants have the opportunity to connect with peers, mentors, and industry experts, fostering relationships that extend beyond the program duration. This global network not only offers ongoing support but also serves as a platform for collaboration and idea-sharing among women leaders in the media field.
