2024 Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Programme.

The Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Program is an initiative aimed at promoting academic exchange and collaboration among member universities of the Coimbra Group, a network of leading European multidisciplinary universities. This program offers short-term scholarships to students and academic staff from member universities to undertake research, training, or academic activities at another member university.

The program provides opportunities for scholars and students to enhance their academic and professional development by immersing themselves in a different academic environment, gaining exposure to new perspectives, and collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. It aims to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among member institutions, thereby contributing to the advancement of research and academic excellence in Europe and beyond.

Scholarships are typically awarded for periods ranging from one week to three months, allowing recipients to engage in activities such as conducting research, attending seminars or conferences, participating in workshops, or collaborating on joint projects with host universities. The program covers travel expenses, accommodation, and a stipend to support living expenses during the scholarship period.

The Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Program is open to students and academic staff from all disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and arts. Applicants are selected based on their academic excellence, the quality of their proposed activities, and the potential for collaboration and knowledge exchange with the host institution.

By facilitating short-term academic visits and exchanges, the program aims to foster international cooperation, promote cultural understanding, and strengthen academic ties between member universities of the Coimbra Group. It contributes to building a vibrant and interconnected European academic community, enriching the academic experience of scholars and students, and advancing collaborative research and innovation across borders.

Universities of the Coimbra Group offer short-term visits (generally 1 to maximum 3 months) to young African researchers from higher education institutions from Sub-Saharan Africa.

The main aim of this scholarship programme is to enable scholars to undertake research in which they are engaged in their home institution and to help them establish academic and research contacts in Europe. The scholarships are financially supported by the Coimbra Group member universities participating in this programme, while the Coimbra Group Office is in charge of the administrative management of the applications.

Please note that some Coimbra Group Universities may restrict the eligibility to some Sub-Saharan countries only – to find out if your country is eligible, please refer to the “Remarks” section in the table at the end of this document. In most universities the language of instruction is that of the country itself, but in many universities, it is possible to use English as the working language.
