The ETH4D program offers mentoring in the following form for doctoral candidates hjson low- and lower-middle-income countries: The one-year mentoring program consists of:
One year support of mentee’s doctoral studies by a professor, senior scientist, or postdoc of ETH. Monthly meetings between the mentor and mentee are highly recommended, together with clear determinations of work packages, e.g., joint attendance of conference, a joint contribution to publication. Although participation in doctoral committee of mentor is not compulsory, mentors at ETH are invited to do so.
A research visit to the mentor’s research group at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, for a period ranging from 1 to 3 months over the mentorship duration.
Traveling funds and/or conference attendance support.

Notification on decisions will be sent after the deadline date, around 5-6 weeks.
Grant and Application Information:
Expenses Covered
- The grant is for actual incurred expenses, to a maximum of 15,000 CHF and including:
- Economy roundtrip (up to 2,000 CHF) airfare to Switzerland and back for the research visit.
- Cost of visa.
- Travel fund for attending an academic conference.
- Research supplies (e.g., laboratory tools) total up to 6,000 CHF.
- Health insurance costs.
- Local transportation expenses.
- Accommodation.
- Living allowance for the duration of the research stay at ETH Zurich.
