2024 DAAD/NELGA Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.

The DAAD/NELGA Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is a prestigious opportunity offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in collaboration with the Network of Excellence for Land Governance in Africa (NELGA). This fellowship program aims to support outstanding postdoctoral researchers who are conducting research in the field of land governance in Africa.

The fellowship provides funding for postdoctoral researchers to conduct their research at a host institution in Africa or Germany for a duration of up to 12 months. During the fellowship period, researchers have the opportunity to engage in advanced research activities, collaborate with leading experts in their field, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in land governance.

Applicants for the DAAD/NELGA Postdoctoral Research Fellowship are typically required to have completed their doctoral degree within the past five years and to have a strong background in a relevant field such as geography, sociology, economics, law, or environmental studies. They are also expected to have a well-defined research proposal that aligns with the objectives of the fellowship program.

Fellows receive financial support to cover travel expenses, research-related costs, and a monthly stipend to support their living expenses during the fellowship period. They also benefit from access to research facilities, mentorship opportunities, and networking events organized by NELGA and its partner institutions.

The DAAD/NELGA Postdoctoral Research Fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for postdoctoral researchers to advance their careers, build international research networks, and contribute to addressing key challenges in land governance in Africa.

In the “Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Policy in Africa” (SLGA) program, the DAAD sponsors a fellowship initiative targeting young academics and professionals from African Union member states specializing in Land Governance and Land Management.

The program’s objective is to facilitate the implementation of enhanced land policies within selected countries by African institutions and experts. Key areas of focus include assisting the African Land Policy Centre (ALPC) in establishing a Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA) to enhance training and capacity-building opportunities in land management and policy across the continent. Additionally, the initiative aims to foster needs-based research in Africa and support activities related to monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge exchange in this domain.
