2024 Lagos State Agripreneurship Training Programme.

The Lagos State Agripreneurship Training Program is an initiative aimed at equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to become successful agripreneurs, entrepreneurs operating within the agricultural sector. The program is typically organized and implemented by the Lagos State government in collaboration with relevant stakeholders such as agricultural institutions, industry experts, and development partners.

The main objective of the Agripreneurship Training Program is to promote agriculture as a viable means of livelihood and entrepreneurship, particularly among youths and unemployed individuals. By providing training, mentorship, and support, the program seeks to empower participants to establish and manage sustainable agricultural businesses.

The training curriculum of the program often covers various aspects of agricultural entrepreneurship, including agricultural production techniques, value chain development, agribusiness management, marketing strategies, financial management, and access to agricultural finance and resources.

Participants in the Lagos State Agripreneurship Training Program may receive both theoretical knowledge and practical skills through classroom sessions, field visits, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive workshops. Additionally, they may have opportunities to engage with successful agripreneurs, industry professionals, and government officials to gain insights and inspiration for their own ventures.

Upon completion of the training program, participants are expected to have acquired the necessary skills and confidence to start and manage their agricultural enterprises effectively. By promoting agribusiness development, the Lagos State government aims to contribute to food security, job creation, economic growth, and poverty alleviation in the state.

Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (L.A.P.) is a social intervention program aimed at exposing the youth to agriculture via training utilizing modern agricultural techniques and practices towards job and wealth creation.

Agriculture is the backbone of many economies, averaging 25% or more of GDP in several developing countries and representing a prime opportunity to employ the youth. Considering the country’s ageing population of food producers, with an average age of 60+, it behooves the government to drive inclusive strategies that engage the target group in agricultural food production. Lagos is not left behind in this drive, and as such initiated programs targeted at youth participation in the sector through its Ministry of Agriculture to mitigate some of the challenges identified as preventing the youth from fully engaging in agriculture – most notably lack of financing, land, markets, and training.

Some of the programs initiated by the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu conceptualized the establishment of the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (L.A.P.) in the year 2024 as a social intervention program aimed at exposing the youth to agriculture via training utilizing modern agricultural techniques and practices towards job and wealth creation. The program aims to train 15,000 youth across four value chains namely poultry, aquaculture, vegetable, and piggery within the next 5 years
